Painting #30: Hokulea, the Pride of Hawaii: Polynesian Voyaging Canoe

Artists for A Pristine PlanetSOLD. “The Polynesian Voyaging Society (PVS) was founded in 1973 to carry out an experiment that would help answer some questions: how did the Polynesians settle the far-flung islands of the mid-Pacific – by accident or by design?

“Did their canoes and their knowledge of navigation enable them to sail purposefully over the vast sea distances between Pacific islands?

“PVS began with the building of a replica of a Hawaiian voyaging canoe, Hōkūle‘a, launched in 1975, to explore the seafaring heritage and the voyaging routes of our ancestors….”

Excerpt above from PVS’s website. Read and find out more here: http://pvs.kcc.hawaii.edu

I’ve been watching Hōkūle‘a and her trips across the waters since she was first launched, and it’s a privilege to paint her. I’ve wanted to for years and years and just never did. Here she is.

Painting #28: Where Did We Come From and Where Are We Going?

Artists for A Pristine PlanetWhere Did We Come From and Where Are We Going? Painting #28.

I guess I kinda got caught by the boat metaphor doing yesterday’s The Future Is A Mystery.

I kept thinking of that saying, “We’re All One,” and thought if we’re all One, then there is no separation between us, our realities or anything in them.

So I ask myself, what is important? Not the Journey itself, but how we live it.

Want the original of Where Did We Come From and Where Are We Going?

Painting #27: The Future Is A Mystery

Artists for A Pristine Planet

SOLD. The Future is A Mystery: Painting #27.

Sometimes I don’t know if I’m coming or going – am I floating?

Beached? Waiting? Stranded?

Ready to rock ‘n’ roll?

That’s what this beautiful old Portuguese fishing skiff reminds me of, sitting on the sand…or is it a cloud…or water….?

What is really too bad about this online image is that you cannot see the thick texture of the paint. It’s extra thick, because I was slogging it on as fast and furious as I could, just to see if I could. I could, and did!

If you missed getting the original of The Future is A Mystery, get a giclée print (a giclée is a high-quality print on canvas – so good you almost can’t tell the difference between it and the original) here: http://bit.ly/Future-Mystery-Prints

Painting #24: Body Surfing with My Buddies

Painting #24: TITLE: Body Surfing with My Buddies.

Last night a friend and I sat in his studio looking at hundreds of paintings, fantastic sci-fi computer art and highly stylized cartoons by other artists.

It was like I’d been hit with a huge high-amp jolt – I suddenly realized that I’d been being way too serious!

So I asked myself what I’d like to do today – oh yeah! Body surf!

OK then – here we go – and remember to look down to see who you’re surfing with!

Want the original of this one?

Here’s how you get your original of Body Surf: Email me at Lyon(at)AngelaTreatLyon.com with APP Body Surf in the subject line to get this one.

And if you miss getting
the original, get a gicl´e print (a gicl´e is a high-quality print on canvas – so good you almost can’t tell the difference between it and the original) here http://bit.ly/Body-Surf-Prints.

Painting #17: Mellow Morning

Artists for A Pristine Planet

SOLD. Painting #17: TITLE: Mellow Morning. Some mornings here are so sweet – I love walking on the wet sand, seeing how impermanent my path upon the earth is – even compared to the real impact I and my doings might have. I think about how I could easily be an isolated artist, hiding in my studio – I did for years, you know! But I believe now that it’s more important to get out and speak up for what you’re passionate about.

Times have changed radically, and because of increased communications and technology, we have opportunites to create and amazing options we never had before. It’s time to creep out of that hidey hole and take your passion for a walk – a long, beautiful one!

Boy did I have a hard time getting the right blues in this online image – it just won’t translate all the way how rich those blues are. Ah well. Frustrating.

The original is SOLD! Thank you!

If you missed getting the original, you can get a print of this image starting at $104.00: http://bit.ly/Mellow-prints

Here’s where you can get a mousey pad of the same image (and others, as well): http://bit.ly/Mellow-MP

Painting #14: Huge

Artists for A Pristine PlanetPainting #13: TITLE: Huge. I get an arts newsletter that has an ad for ‘bold brush’ painters in it every day. When I saw that today, I thought, how can I paint this painting using a bold brush? So I used a big brush – about .75 inch across – to paint this – except, of course, the surfer, for which I used a smaller brush….

Help me support the cleanup of our oceans! Get this original painting for only $100 – email me at this address: Lyon(at)AngelaTreatLyon.com with APP Huge Wave in the subject line. I’ll let you know what to do so you can own this painting.

A percentage of each sale goes to organizations who help research what’s needed, and/or do the work….

Want a mousey-pad of Huge? Get it here: http://bit.ly/huge-wave-MP, or a quality print on paper or canvas here: http://bit.ly/huge-wave-prints (starting at $104).

What do you think – kind of an amazing wave to surf, yes? I know people who wait until the waves are even bigger than this to even think about going out. Egads!
