Painting #23: Outrigger

Artists for A Pristine Planet

Painting #23: TITLE: Outrigger.

This is a take-off from an old Hawaiian poster I’ve had for years.

Back in the days before lead was banned from paint, they had this great color called Hookers Green. You can’t get it anymore, and it’s a crying shame.

I wanted to see if I could do a piece almost entirely in greens, and if I could get the feel that the older paintings had. I rather like it.

Because this image reminds me of a little tiny town called Ka’a’awa here on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu. The way you say it goes like this: KAH ah AH vah, with distinct breaks between the segments.

Want the original of this one? Here’s how you get your original of Outrigger: Email me at Lyon at with APP Outrigger in the subject line.

You can get a gorgeous, gem colored mousey-pad of it here:

And if you miss getting the original, get a giclée print (a giclée is a high-quality print on canvas – so good you almost can’t tell the difference between it and the original) here
