Almost Across the Line: Painting #55

Artists for A Pristine PlanetAlmost Across the Line: Painting #55! Every evening I hear/see the outrigger canoes racing up and back down the canal behind my house.

From little kids to men in their 70s, it’s always exciting to hear the clank of paddle against hull, the “HUT” cry of the steering guy, and the shuffle of hands and paddles as they shift from paddling on one side to the other. Here, they’re almost home, almost across the finish line as the sun sinks….

Sunset Through the Leaves

Artists for A Pristine PlanetSunset Through the Leaves

When the setting sun hits my garden wall just right, the leaves all light up from behind just like organic jewels.

This view is right outside of my office, so I get to see it every single afternoon as I sit here and work!

Lucky me!

The original is SOLD! Thank you!

When you get these original paintings, you help me support the cleanup of the nasty plastic drinking water bottle trash we’ve created on the planet.

Because out of each piece I sell, I donate to an organization that helps research the problem and how to best approach it and where, or do the actual cleanup needed.

Thanks!

You can get a mousey-pad of it here:

And since you missed getting the original, I invite you to get a print (on paper or canvas) starting at $104: PrintsbyLyon.com.

Painting #5: 5 p.m. Canoe Club

Artist for A Pristine PlanetHere in Hawaii, the afternoon is sweet as sugar.

The clouds gather over the mountains and sweep towards the beach, and if it rains it doesn’t last long.

Near where I live, this is what it looks like when the canoe club gathers to practice every day. When I go down to the beach it’s just like getting a shot of pure Life – I always come home re-energized.

This painting was done in acrylics on 9″ x 12″ canvas. The original does not have the watermarked words on it!

Here’s how you can get the original of the painting: email Lyon at AngelaTreatLyon.com and request it! $100 plus S&H.

If you miss getting the original, you can get a print of this image HERE starting at $104.00.

Painting #10: Ko’Olina Afternoon

You Are the Light of My Life: Painting #50!

Artists for A Pristine PlanetYou Are the Light of My Life: Painting #50!

It’s been great taking a week off – I’ve found out so much. I discovered I was still trying to paint what I thought other people would life. that’s fine if that’s your style, but it doesn’t fit with my paint-from-Source desire.

So I recommitted to painting from That Deep Place before picking up my brushes again today.

I hope you have taken the plastic bull by the horn and stopped buying bottled drinking water by now, as well as using cloth carry bags for groceries! Thanks – you are really helping when you just do those 2 things!

Sunup Over Kailua: Painting #68!

Sunup Over Kailua: Painting #68! When I sailed from Kauai to California a long time ago, one of the things that blew me away the most was how dawn looked over a glassy-surfaced ocean.

The horizon practically disappeared, the water reflected the sky making the world into soft cotton candy with streaks of light blue and lavender – a delicious dream!

Sunup over Kailua looks like that, too, sometimes – and you can see the end of the point going out past Kaneohe there on the left. This is a very heavily textured painting.

Haleakala Dawn: Painting #67

Artists for A Pristine PlanetHaleakala Dawn: Painting #67! A way long time ago, I spent a month at a fellow artist’s beautiful place on Maui near Wailuku. Every day I’d hike to the top of the hill looking towards Haleakala, the dormant volcano.

On this morning, there was a heavy mist over the mountain and you couldn’t see the peak, but the colors were opal-spectacular.

Artists for A Pristine PlanetThis painting doesn’t even begin to capture it, but will have to do….and the actual painting is less harsh than this looks – I just couldn’t get it where I wanted it. Those light colors are a bear to catch -

Painting #30: Hokulea, the Pride of Hawaii: Polynesian Voyaging Canoe

Artists for A Pristine Planet“The Polynesian Voyaging Society (PVS) was founded in 1973 to carry out an experiment that would help answer some questions: how did the Polynesians settle the far-flung islands of the mid-Pacific – by accident or by design?

“Did their canoes and their knowledge of navigation enable them to sail purposefully over the vast sea distances between Pacific islands?

“PVS began with the building of a replica of a Hawaiian voyaging canoe, Hōkūle‘a, launched in 1975, to explore the seafaring heritage and the voyaging routes of our ancestors….”

Excerpt above from PVS’s website. Read and find out more here: http://pvs.kcc.hawaii.edu

I’ve been watching Hōkūle‘a and her trips across the waters since she was first launched, and it’s a privilege to paint her. I’ve wanted to for years and years and just never did. Here she is.

Painting #24: Body Surfing with My Buddies

Painting #24: TITLE: Body Surfing with My Buddies.

Last night a friend and I sat in his studio looking at hundreds of paintings, fantastic sci-fi computer art and highly stylized cartoons by other artists.

It was like I’d been hit with a huge high-amp jolt – I suddenly realized that I’d been being way too serious!

So I asked myself what I’d like to do today – oh yeah! Body surf!

OK then – here we go – and remember to look down to see who you’re surfing with!

Painting #23: Outrigger

Artists for A Pristine Planet

Painting #23: TITLE: Outrigger.

This is a take-off from an old Hawaiian poster I’ve had for years.

Back in the days before lead was banned from paint, they had this great color called Hookers Green. You can’t get it anymore, and it’s a crying shame.

I wanted to see if I could do a piece almost entirely in greens, and if I could get the feel that the older paintings had. I rather like it.

And why is the funny word, Ka’a'awa in the tags? Because this image reminds me of a little tiny town called just that here on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu. The way you say it goes like this: KAH ah AH vah, with distinct breaks between the segments.

Want the original of this one? Here’s how you get your original of Outrigger: Email me at Lyon(at)AngelaTreatLyon.com with APP Outrigger in the subject line to get this one.

Or, you can now get the originals through my new shop at Etsy.com: go here:

Painting #19: Out My Door

Artists for A Pristine Planet

Painting #18: TITLE: Out My Door. This is what I see when I look out my door from my office. I keep the door open at all times so I can see my tiny little lanai – the sun is too intense there to sit for any length of time, so I filled it up with my little green friends.

Maybe you’ll recognize the birds-nest fern leaf on the left, the star-shaped sweet potato leaves and the lovely coral-red hibiscus.  I really love the contrast between the coral of the hibiscus and the gem-green of the leaves. And those little pinkish-lavender spots at impatiens and begonias peeking through here and there in the shadows.

Someone asked me the other day if I had painted all the images you see here. Yep, I did.

Email me at Lyon(at)AngelaTreatLyon.com with APP Out My Door in the subject line to get this one. Keep an eye on my facebook fan page here: 100-100-100, too.

Get a mousey-pad of it here: Out-My-Door-MP, and get high quality prints in different sizes (starting at $104) here Out-My-Door-Prints. The image you see here is a darker than the actual painting.

Painting #17: Mellow Morning

Artists for A Pristine Planet

Painting #17: TITLE: Mellow Morning. Some mornings here are so sweet – I love walking on the wet sand, seeing how impermanent my path upon the earth is – even compared to the real impact I and my doings might have. I think about how I could easily be an isolated artist, hiding in my studio – I did for years, you know! But I believe now that it’s more important to get out and speak up for what you’re passionate about.

Times have changed radically, and because of increased communications and technology, we have opportunites to create and amazing options we never had before. It’s time to creep out of that hidey hole and take your passion for a walk – a long, beautiful one!

Boy did I have a hard time getting the right blues in this online image – it just won’t translate all the way how rich those blues are. Ah well. Frustrating.

The original is SOLD! Thank you!

If you missed getting the original, you can get a print of this image starting at $104.00: http://bit.ly/Mellow-prints

Here’s where you can get a mousey pad of the same image (and others, as well): http://bit.ly/Mellow-MP

Painting #15 & 16! Rosey Lips

Artists for A Pristine Planet

Today I’m breaking the mold. I told you I’d do a painting a day, each one for 100 bucks. Well, turns out it took me TWO days to get this painting out, so it’s Painting #15 AND 16. So it will go for $200.

Are they really that colorful? Yep, they really do look like that! (Go to google images and see: flapjack succulents, or Kalanchoe Luciae.) There are some I saw there that have deep, lipstick-red lips! Amazing, and so lovely to be able to go out and see in my garden every day. This original painting was done in acrylics on 9″ x 12″ canvas.

HOW TO GET THIS ORIGINAL PAINTING: Here’s how you can get it: email me at this address: Lyon (at) 100Days100Paintings.com with ‘APP Rosey Lips‘ in the subject line. First one to email me gets it. I’ll email you back letting you know what to do next!
